About Me
#1 Ranked"BestNewUnsignedArtist" @ Autumn 2012.
Other Bands: Lady E & The Essentials Magic Bus The Trade SNOI Bloodshot Moon

I came up with the name "Roxx Hoffner & The Straightjackets" in less than a minute, while I was entering the songwriting contest because I didn't think it mattered what name I entered. I've been writing songs before I learned guitar. I have hundred's of pages of songs/lyrics that I've never showed anyone(I still havei them) because I didn'tthink they were good enough.. most of them aren;t.

I found a cassete with the first song I wrote with guitar. It had three chords (E, Em and E7)because those were the first chords I'd learned. It was my first week of guitar lessons but I wanted to try and write a song. I'm glad I've never played it for anyone because it sucks! I don't think I'll ever let anyone hear it! It's called "Mud Morning". I knew it wasn't going to be a hit, but I just wanted to try and write a song on guitar. I did it! I even recorded it. I thought it was cool that I actually did it, but knew better not to let anyone else hear it.

Back to the contest.. I seen it in twitter. I'd recently written some new songs, inspired by a gal and told her  about it. Because the songs felt good, and she was what inspired me to write them she would probably like hearing that. She wanted to hear it!?!

Well, when she finally heard some of it, she liked it. But, I knew they could be better so I called Kurt. He called Kenny. Then we called Stan and he set us up to come to his studio. He's cool like that. We got together and did some recordings. It came out real good for just meeting up and trying it! Stan burnt some rough mixes for me to listen to on the drive home. They weren't mastered and we could do them better next time. So, I found that WLYS songwriting contest and it was free to enter.. But, I didn't want to enter because my songs aren't ready yet...

Then my cousin and guitar soul brother died. After the funeral I seen the contest again on twitter. That's when I entered, thinking,"When will my songs be ready?! I might be dead tommarrow! So, just to see what happens, I entered.  I didn't win but I ranked #3. Unbelievable. So, I kept writing and entering utill we ranked  on top. .But, it's not easy finding musicians to join the group with the name "Straightjackets"
